SKI AREA

Champoluc is located in the ski area of Monterosa Ski. This ski area forms the southern slope of the Matterhorn (or Monte Cervino as it is called in Italian) and it’s located to the west of the Dolomites. Other ski areas in this region include Courmayeur, Breuil-Cervinia, Veysonnaz, and Alagna (see links).

Cuneaz and Lodge Chalet Gol are located directly beneath a blue piste which you can ski to from the lodge’s front door. To get to the rest of the ski area, you can either take the aerial tramway, which is located a few hundred metres further down the rest of the mountain, or you can follow the piste down to Champoluc, where the tramway starts. This high altitude ski area has 180 kilometres of groomed piste and is guaranteed to receive both sun and snow. The pistes range in altitude from 1580 metres to 3275 metres and are located both above and below the tree line. The difficulty ranges from blue to black. In general, the black pistes here are less difficult than those in France or Switzerland. The pistes are immaculately groomed, and if there is not enough snow over large areas to maintain the quality of the pistes, they are supplemented with artificial snow.

Monterosa Ski is also known for its exciting off-piste skiing. A number of off-piste skiing excursions with guides can be organized through Monterosa Ski or by clicking on the link provided. For instance, it is possible to go on a helicopter skiing excursion with a guide to Zermatt and back along a 28 km descent right to the door of Lodge Chalet Gol.

There are also cross-country ski trails from Champoluc. Skis and equipment are available for rent from shops near the aerial tramway in Champoluc. In the summer, mountain bikes and climbing gear are also available for rent.

Ski passes for the Monterosa Ski area are available at the entrance to the aerial tramway (see link).
